LICENSED
ABOUT ENROLLED AGENTS

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a Federally Authorized Tax Practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and is empowered by the U.S. Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections, and appeals.

Only EA's are required to demonstrate to the IRS their competence in matters of taxation before they may represent a taxpayer before the IRS. Unlike attorneys and CPAs, all EAs specialize in taxation. CPAs and attorneys are licensed by the individual states, while EAs are licensed by the US government

SCALE:

1 = Ultra Conservative - Always take standard deduction because it is audit-proof.

3 = Conservative - Take no deduction if there is a 10% chance or better it could cause the return to be audited.

5 = Neutral - Take deductions if adequate proof. Take no gray areas. Little creativity.

7 = Take all deductions with at least a 2/3 chance of success if audited. Moderate creativity.

10 = Ultra Aggressive - Take tax positions on the hope that the IRS doesn't audit the return, and if they do, you pay the IRS. Very creative.

OFF THE SCALE past 10 = TAX PROTESTER
